Dual-wavelength Q-switched Operation in Erbium-doped Fiber Laser Cavity with Hybrid Organic Small Molecules as Saturable Absorber
Salam M. Azooz
We have experimentally demonstrated dual-wavelength Q-switching operation by using a newly developed organic material, hybrid organic small molecules (HOSM), as saturable absorber (SA). The HOSM SA was fabricated by drop-casting method in which the martial compound was deposited onto polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to form a thin-film. The thin film was then incorporated between two FC/PC in order to form an SA device. On the other hand, a microfiber with 8 μm diameter was used in order to induce a dual-wavelength operation. The output spectrum has two peaks at 1557 nm and 1659.7 nm. The laser produced a repetition rate in the range between 18 kHz to 78 kHz and the pulse width between 17.6 μs to 4.25 μs. The laser produced a very high signal-to-noise ratio of 57 dB. This is the first time, to the best of author knowledge, that dual-wavelength operation is produced by using HOSM as SA in fiber laser technology.
