Photoreduction of various cations, i.e. Au(III), Ag(I), Cu(II) and Ni(II) has been performed by two-photon laser exposure in the solid state. Starting from a homogeneous dispersion of the cation within a polymeric matrix, and using a Fe(III) citrate complex as photoreactive specie, the patterning of two-dimensional structures (dots arrays) or nanowires has been demonstrated.
