Incorporation of lanthanide ions in polymerizable macrocylic molecules, such as calixarene and calix-resorcinarene monomers, has been studied by 1H NMR and fluorescence spectroscopies. The complexation formation through non-ionic coordination bond with the upper rim oxygen of resorcinarene monomers was clarified by the observation of dipolar shift in NMR spectrum. The complexation results in broadening of fluorescence peak and elongation of the fluorescence decay, which are attributed to increasing anisotropy of ligand field due to this complexation.
