Optimization of the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of 7075 Al Alloy Fabricated Using Laser Metal Deposition (LMD)
Y. Shao, P. Xu and Z-W. Hu

Laser metal deposition (LMD) technology was adapted to fabricate 7075 Al alloy (AA7075) parts on T6-state rolled plates with a fibre laser system. Thereafter the optimal laser power parameters were explored. The results indicated that the microstructure of the AA7075 by LMD consisted of equiaxed grains, and the laser power of 1.1 kW yielded the minimum defects and superior mechanical performance; however, the deposited sample has low strength and poor ductility, with a mixed fracture mode of brittle fracture, ductile fracture, and intergranular fracture.
