Aiming at the surface quality detection of fusion welding, an automatic surface contour detection method based on two-dimensional (2-D) laser ranging sensor with triangulation geometry is studied. The compensation and correction algorithm of weld surface detection data was studied, and the automatic analysis algorithm model of weld contour and weld residual height feature is established, which reduced the sensitivity of sensor detection position to detection data and improved detection accuracy. The test results show that laser ranging detection data is in good agreement with metallographic measured dimensions. The method and technology foundation are laid for automatic detection of fusion weld contour size and intelligent evaluation of weld surface quality.
