A fibre laser was used to study the effect of laser remelting on the corrosion properties of laser thermal sprayed Al85Ni8Y4Ce3 amorphous coatings on Q235 steel in 0.5 mol/l NaCl solution. The results showed that superior corrosion resistance to Cl- damage was achieved by the laser remelted coating due to the inhibition of metastable pitting and high film impedance. The defect density of the passive film on the laser thermal sprayed Al85Ni8Y4Ce3 amorphous coating was higher than that of the laser remelted coating, indicating the excellent passive film stability and strong corrosion resistance after laser remelting.
