Quasi-Three-Level Yb:Cn Laser at 978 Nm and the Second-Harmonic Generation

We present what is, to the best of our knowledge, the first diode-pumped Yb:CaNb2O6 laser emitting at 978 nm. The use of a pump module at 940 nm allowed the realization of an Yb:CaNb2O6 thin disk laser with 1.14 W of continuous wave (CW) output power at 978 nm. Moreover, intra-cavity second-harmonic generation (SHG) in CW mode has also been demonstrated with a power of 151 mW at 489 nm by using a LiB3O5(LBO) nonlinear crystal. The beam quality factor M2 is 1.11 for the tangential direction and 1.13 for the sagittal direction.
