First Experimental Studies on Ablation of Liquids for Laser Propulsion

A TEA CO2 laser was employed to ablate sprayed droplets for laser propulsion. The momentum coupling coefficient was derived from the force sensor data. Experimental results indicated that the coupling coefficient Cm was dependent largely on the droplet Sauter mean diameter (SMD), speed and their combined interaction.
