13th International Workshop on Cellular Automata:
AUTOMATA 2007
We are pleased to present the third volume of Proceedings of the 13th International Workshop on Cellular Automata, AUTOMATA 2007, which took place at The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on August 27-29, 2007. The articles of these proceedings report on the newest developments in the theory and applications of Cellular Automata and Discrete Complex Systems presented and discussed at AUTOMATA 2007. The event attracted over 70 researchers from 16 different countries, distributed over all continents, who actively participated at the intense workshop of 40 talks and a poster session. AUTOMATA 2007 covered the beauty and challenges of cellular automata and discrete complex systems research from mathematical, computers science, and statistical physics perspective with applications to diverse areas, e.g., epidemiology, sensor networks, highway traffic, tumour growth, or cardiac pacemaker design.
Since not all the researchers who presented their work at the conference submitted articles for publication in these Proceedings we provided a list of titles of invited and contributed talks and poster presentations in the introduction to the first volume of this proceedings, Journal of Cellular Automata, Volume 4, Number 2 (2009). We would like to thank all AUTOMATA 2007 attendees for their active and informative participation to the meeting. We express our gratitude to all contributors for their excellent work and cooperation with editors in preparation of these Proceedings. We thank all the anonymous referees for their effort and constructive reports which helped to improve the quality of the published papers. We thank Danuta Makowiec for encouraging us to organize AUTOMATA2007.
