Experimental Investigation of Mass Transport by Oscillatory Flows in Ribbed Mini-Tubes
Jaroslav Hemrle, Sadanari Mochizuki and Akira Murata
Experimental results on axial mass transport by oscillating flow in ribbed sub-millimeter tube are presented. Effective mass diffusivity trends differ qualitatively below the oscillation Reynolds number based on the rib height of ReH ~17, where the character of the transport is diffusive, and above this value, where the effective diffusivity is significantly enhanced by vortex mixing and depends only on the oscillation Reynolds number. Compared to the smooth tube, mass transport enhancement by up to two orders is observed in the range of 2 < ReH < 350. The transport results are compared with flow behavior visualized in 22 mm tube.
