Letter to the Editor: Analysis of Goyal-Gupta Equation of State for Ge (49nm) nanomaterial

The equation of state used recently by Goyal and Gupta (High Temperatures – High Pressures 45 (2016) 163) for some nanomaterials has been found to yield an expression for the pressure derivative of bulk modulus which is different from that reported by the authors. The modified expression obtained in the present study is consistent with the infinite pressure thermodynamic constraints. On the other hand, the Goyal-Gupta expression for the pressure derivative of bulk modulus is incorrect and inconsistent. The results have been determined for Ge (49 nm) nanomaterial using the correct expression for the pressure derivative of bulk modulus. The new results are significantly different from those reported by Goyal and Gupta, and found to be consistent with the extreme pressure conditions.
