Based on the T-type probe developed previously, a novel method has been proposed to determine the intrinsic thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of individual fibers, and the thermal contact resistance at the junction between the hot wire and the fiber. In this method, the hot wire is supplied with an alternating current (AC) to generate a temperature oscillation at the junction, the penetration depth of the temperature oscillation along the fiber and the corresponding thermal resistance will be changed with the AC frequency. Based on this fact, the intrinsic thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of individual fibers and thermal contact resistance at the junction can be measured simultaneously by changing the AC frequency. To verify this method, numerical calculations on the individual carbon fiber have been carried out, the effects of the AC frequency and amplitude, and the cross section ratio of the fiber to the hot wire on the measurement sensitivity have been discussed.
