Phase transformations of technically pure metals and two-component alloys in miniature fixed-point crucibles
Dirk Boguhn, Silke Augustin, Frank Bernhard, Helge Mammen
Closed miniature crucibles filled with technically pure metals or alloys are presented, which can be integrated directly into thermocouples or resistance thermometers. This, in turn, facilitates the detection of any phase-change processes taking place in the substances contained. Furthermore, the temperatures prevailing during those phase transformations can be exactly determined. This principle is applied, for example, in the thermal analysis of substances and for designing self-calibrating temperature sensors. Besides the evaluation methods and the estimation of uncertainty factors when determining the temperature values, some measuring results obtained by means of thermocouples with an integrated miniature crucible are also presented.
