Some approaches for obtaining better data for thermal diffusivities of thin materials measured by the laser-flash method
DaWei Tang, Nobuyuki Araki
When the laser-flash method is employed to measure thin materials, some effects, which may be ignored for thick materials, should become important because of the limitation of the measuring systems. The effects of the pulse width of the heating laser, the response lag of the measuring system, and the absorptive coating layer on thermal diffusivity measurements of thin materials have been investigated and some approaches are suggested for minimising these effects in order to obtain precise measurement results.
