Size-of-source effect correction for a thermal imaging radiation thermometer
Peter Saunders, Hamish Edgar
A method is proposed to correct for the size-of-source effect (SSE) for a thermal imaging radiation thermometer constructed from a CCD camera. This method is based on two-dimensional deconvolution techniques which use the measured impulse response of the system. Analysis reveals that the major contribution to the SSE is due to inter-element reflections among the optical components. The deconvolution procedure is effective in removing these reflections and also the blurring effects of diffraction, scattering, and diffusion crosstalk in the CCD. The temperature errors resulting from the SSE are analysed.
