Corresponding states correlation for the surface tension of alkanes
Setareh Sheikh, Ali Boushehri
Reduced coordinates, s* and T*, where s* is the reduced surface tension and T* is the reduced temperature, are introduced for the prediction of the surface tension of alkanes. According to phenomenological scaling and consideration of the law of corresponding states, the new reduced coordinates result in a single curve for the surface tension of alkanes. In the correlation, the melting temperature is applied as the corresponding temperature for the different compounds. T* is a reduced temperature at a scaled distance from the boiling point and s* varies linearly with T*. The relationship between them is given by s* = a + bT, where a and b are constants, independent of temperature. This relationship has advantages over its counterparts in the literature.
