Thermal radiation characteristics of real surfaces of solid materials in natural/industrial environments
Toshiro Makino
Spectral research for heat transfer science on thermal radiation characteristics of solid surfaces is reviewed. The research is in the field of engineering science rather than that of solid state physics. Discussions include the following topics: high-speed spectroscopy for experimental investigation of radiation phenomena of solid real surfaces in actual natural / industrial environments; numerical modelling of such real surfaces with a description of the reflection characteristics by an electromagnetic wave theory; particle scattering and surface scattering by particles or fibres with rough surfaces; hemispherical and bidirectional reflectance measurements for investigating the characteristics of each real surface. The significance of these experimental and theoretical works is reviewed from an engineering science point of view.
