A Comparative Study of Various Coverage-hole Patching Algorithms in Wireless Sensor Networks
Smita Das
The Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are typically used in applications with limited human intervention. In all such applications, quality is a concern that may be affected by the existence of Coverage-Holes (CHs)which are the uncovered region inside the WSN. After the identification of the CHs, the patching or healing of the identified CHs by deploying additional sensor nodes has always been a prime issue for the researchers. In this paper, various hole-patching approaches have been investigated and categorized for better understanding. Subsequently, factors affecting the hole-patching issues have been identified for improved hole-patching algorithm design. Furthermore, different recent hole-patching algorithms have been discussed by highlighting their key features, merits and demerits for better understanding of the future researchers in this field.
