Wireless sensor network (WSN) is established to monitor physical environment in various places. Hence, it is essential the network continues to operate, even if failure occurred in the network nodes. In this paper, fault detection process has done in multiphase. The proposed scheme identified and clustered the nodes and selected the cluster heads. The neighbor table and adjacency table is created for each node. The method uses indirectly majority of comparative method, although comparative methods are unable to detect common mode failures (CMFs). The proposed approach applies both centralized fault detection techniques and distributed fault detection techniques to detect CMFs. As well as, simulations results indicated the detection accuracy metric has increased in comparison with the similar methods average 5%, and the false alarm rate of the proposed method has decreased by 4.2% and is acceptable even when the fault probability of network is commonly to be high. Energy consumption of the nodes in proposed mechanism has decreased by 3%.
