Compensated Microstrip Line with Periodic Defected Ground Structure and Its Application to a Lowpass Filter

The excellent cutoff and bandgap characteristics of defected ground structure (DGS) for compensated microstrip line(CML) are discussed based on electromagnetic(EM) simulation and circuit analysis. Using five DGS unit lattices with identical periodic dimension, a novel lowpass filter (LPF) having no open stub, high impendence line and T- or crossjunction is designed. Comparison between simulation and measurement confirm the validity of the LPF’s configuration. Also, simple structure and high power handling capability are obtained from the proposed LPF.
