Combustion Characteristics of Jatropha-Oil Droplet
I.N.G. Wardana and Imam Zaky
The characteristics of jatropha oil droplets combustion have been studied experimentally. The droplet was mounted on the junction of a K type thermocouple of 100 μm diameter and was ignited by an electric coil heater. The heating and combustion processes were identified from the thermocouple signal and the flame photograph. Two steps of evaporation are identified during heating and combustion indicating that jatropha oil breaks into two main parts namely fatty acids and glycerol.
Keywords: Droplet combustion, jatropha oil, two step evaporation, flame contraction, glycerol, fatty acid.
