Studies on Wake Induced Unsteady Transition from Laminar to Turbulent Flow Based on a RANS/LES Hybrid Turbulent Model

A RANS/LES hybrid turbulence model is developed and assessed to experimental data on wake induced unsteady transition from laminar to turbulent flow around turbine rotor blade cascade to test the performance of the present model. The results of comparison between measured and experimental values of phase resolved (during wake passing period) velocity, turbulence level, and intermittency led to a very good agreement. Also, the results led to a very good understanding of the basic physical phenomena responsible for the wake induced unsteady transition process.
