A numerical study has been carried out to analyze the heat transfer on DVD-R. The Poynting vector theorem is used to obtain the amount of absorption of laser propagating inside the disc and the finite difference method is used to calculate the temperature distribution. The results present the information of recording characteristics on DVD-R. The write power is influenced by the thermal properties of recording layer. It is shown that the post-heat effect decreases slightly the cooling rate in previous mark area and the pre-heat effect influences the size of following mark. It is confirmed that the adjustment of write strategy is required due to the pre-heat effect.
