Shuichi Torii, Satoyaka Tanaka, Toshiaki Yano and Yoshimi Watanabe
The purpose of the present study is to investigate an arbitrary particle motion moving in molten metal mixture in the casting drum with high-speed rotation. Cold model made of acrylic is employed to disclose the suspension particle motion of the mixture. The particle motion is captured by CCD camera set in the drum and based on the recorded digital data, the particle velocity is obtained with the aid of PTV (Particle Tracing Velocimetry) method. The measured velocity is in accordance with the theoretical one estimated by BBO (Basset-Boussinesq-Ossen) equation and is proportional to the radial distance from the center of the drum.
