The Korea Basic Science Institute has developed superconducting magnet using NbTi with 9T central magnetic field and a 2 inch sample space for an electro-magnetic property measurement system. For cooling and stable operation of superconducting magnet, the development of cryogen vessel that can minimize the boil-off rate of the cryogenic fluid must be preceded. The major source of heat leakage in a cryogen vessel is the thermal conduction of the helium vessel wall between room temperature and the liquid helium temperature. In general, the material of the helium vessel for liquid helium or liquid nitrogen is made of stainless-steel considering of corrosiveness. To minimize conduction heat transfer through the wall of the helium vessel, the material should be selected in consideration of thermal conductivity, strength and corrosiveness. The glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) can be an alternative, because it has low thermal conductivity and high mechanical strength. Another way to minimize conduction heat transfer is physically maximize the length of the helium vessel neck in the same space. In this study, the detailed thermal optimization process of the cryogen vessel with respect to the material and shape of helium vessel is described. In addition, the thermal characteristics of helium vessel using analysis are investigated.
